kiri done

kiri lace shawl
There is a lovely lady called Hilary who has been a friend of my parents for years. She taught me to read a sewing pattern back when I was a little girl. She has been especially lovely to my family the last few weeks so I made her a lace shawl to say thank you.

Pattern: Polly's famous Kiri
Yarn: Jaeger Java from my mother (see post on it below)
Needles: 3.75 Addi turbo, with a 6.5mm pink glittery plastic Pony to cast off.

I knew it was going to get larger as it went on, and taking 20 minutes to purl back on the final few rows wasn't the most fun way to spend a saturday night. But the lace pattern's one of those very addictive ones - not so easy you go to sleep, but simple enough to hold in your head without looking back at the chart. The ruffle-like cast off is very clever, as is the whole construction. I like the ladder that runs down the middle, it makes for a very flattering line.

You've done a beautiful job, I'm sure it'll be loved to death. I love how rich and elegant the colour is.

That's beautiful. I've been pondering lace shawls for the grandmother-in-law, and have yet to find one I like more than Kiri.

GORGEOUS! the color of that yarn is amazing.

That's a wonderful color!

I've been wanting to make something in a rich merlot-burgundy-red, and I didn't think a shawl would work (too dark of a color, wouldn't show up well against the black that 75% of my female relatives wear %75 of the time). But yours looks beautiful! I might have to reconsider.

I'm going to be that annoying commenter and comment twice here :)

I finished checking the written-out Rosalind pattern, and I posted it (with adjustments) on my blog: http://spectacled.blogspot.com

Let me know if you would rather post it here, or have me email you a copy, etc. (although I can't find your email address. It's late. I apologise.)

Thank you for your comment on my blog - and well done with Kiri, it looks beautiful!

Also - I love the Victorian chest of drawers in the background... ;-)
