vintage

I'm stuck with lots of slighly dull WIPs so here's a pre-blog vintage FO. It's "Knitney" (a knitted Britney Spears, for a friend with unhealthy obsession). She looks sad, doesn't she?

For months now I've been on a small projects kick. Clothing just hasn't been inspiring me, even in non-knitting life. I've not really cared much about the clothes I've been wearing recently. Obviously I check they are clean and I'm always fussy about colour combinations but I've not really enjoyed clothes, not wanted to buy new ones or felt especially excited by the idea of dressing up.

But this is starting to change. Not only am I itching to cast on a jumper (yes a whole jumper, maybe even three) I've actually been inspired to design a cardigan. A shaped and elegant piece, cotton (or cotton mix), 4ply, with delicate ribbing round the waist and some lace panels. It'll probably wait till the end of the summer. But it's an idea. And the feeling of inspiration is back.

Still, my priorities are finishing the Bakerloo project and doing a few presents due for July. Plus, my cousin Anne has challenged me to a London/ Yukon knitting swap. All very exciting. Watch this space.

I feel rather uninspired when it comes to clothing these days as well. My friend, Moya, feels that fashion is about to make a big change, which is the explanation for the rather boring muck that is out there now. Even with the knitting -- I've not had great success with tops recently, so like you, I'm focused on smaller projects. And I can't seem to finish one of them!

it seems like everyone's been bit by the knitting blahs lately. i'm thinking that the change of seasons has something to do with it.

sounds like designing something of your own will get you back in the mood!

I'm actually overwhelmed with projects for the first time, well, ever. But I think this has more to do with my moving in August and trying to get gifts to people beforehand.

Glad to see you're getting out of the knit-slump though :)

I love knitney! Was it based on one of the Punk Rock dolls from SnB?

I've been feeling a lot like that too. I think spring and autumn can be difficult - not knowing how you will be feeling or what you'll want to wear tomorrow, and certainly not next week! Well actually I think transitional seasons can be hard in lots of ways, not just sartorial ;). They always make me want to hibernate (yes, if I was a tiny mammal I would have died years ago, seeing as in winter I love stomping around crunching frozen puddles and leaning into the wind). But I've begun dreaming again too. Excellent, it coincides with exam season.

I can't wait to see what you come up with.

I don't blame Knitney for looking a bit distressed, what with the publicity her full-sized counterpart is getting right now. Can't wait to see your future designs.

I thought it was Farah Fawcett at first. Maybe because the post is titled "vintage." It's brilliant either way. Actually, it's more brilliant your way, with the Knitney name. I guess you could make Fairisle Fawcett or something.

Looks pretty awesome, she looks like the days in where she was partying like crazy.
